Our recent Middle School Retreat in China Camp started out foggy and chilly, but the students who rode their bikes from school had a good sweat going by the time they arrived! The Middle School Retreat was a whirlwind of activity that focused on community, inclusion, teamwork and fun. The students were divided up into three groups of 6th, 7th and 8th graders and then worked their way through three rotating stations that consisted of an art project (check out the stairwell!), team challenges, sports games, and a short hike.
Closing out the day, students gathered to do the ever popular Sing Down. Four teams competed to see who could come up with the most songs that had the word "Walk" in them, then sing a portion of the song with added choreography. When it was all sung and done, 7th grade reigned supreme, followed by the 8th grade, 6th grade and finally the teachers (coming in last with a bunch of oldies).
Before saying goodbye, we had a short Shabbat celebration complete with challah and grape juice, fortifying the bikers for their ride back to school (thanks Steve, Melissa and Rich!), and sending our friends home on a sweet note.
