The 3rd grade had a great time on our trout release field trip to Lake Lagunitas last week! It was sunny and warm and felt like summer as we picnicked, hiked, and played in the beautiful Marin Municipal Watershed District (MMWD). We started with the Mt. Tam pinky pledge to care for our watershed, using our thumbprints to 'sign' the document presented by our MMWD guide.
After that, we released 42 fry (baby trout) – a new 3rd-grade record! As we watched our little fish swim hard against the creek's current, we were alarmed to see a group of bass swim up the creek from Bon Tempe Lake. They approached our trout fry, vanished in the shadows, and reappeared in the sunny patches. We held a collective breath as the big fish swam lazily around, but we did not witness them snacking on our 'fries'!
Thanks to all the parent chaperones/photographers for helping to make this trip a highlight of our year. You can view some photos from our nature day HERE.
