Recently a number of our Brandeis middle schoolers competed in the first round of the county-wide Mathletes challenge. Mathletes is a time-honored academic competition held by the Marin County of Education, and over the years we've sent some very successful teams. This round we sent a record number of Brandeis students: five 6th grade practice players, four 7th graders, and six 8th graders. During a meet, students are challenged to solve advanced math problems within 2 to 3 minutes. Our students had a super successful first round, with almost every student correctly solving at least one problem! Our 8th grade team finished in 3rd place out of 20 teams (and 200 students) with Kiyo earning a perfect score of 5/5 and Tara close behind with a 4/5! In 7th grade, Maya L stood out as an excellent team captain. Way to go, Mathletes! Brandeis Marin will host the next county meet on January 14th downstairs in Hoytt Theater – come on out to cheer on our superstars!
