Amazing Astronomy

The field of astronomy always amazes us with mind-boggling facts. In this picture, you'll notice an orange spot in the middle of Sydney and Beatrice's Jupiter drawing - it's showing a storm system in Jupiter's atmosphere that is larger than Earth! 7th grade science is working on an outdoor scale model of the solar system which will be 100 feet long. Students will place planets (represented by student drawings like the one above) at carefully calculated locations in the "model" to replicate our solar system. Here's another amazing fact for you: at this scale, the nearest star to our sun would not be in Marin County, but would be closer to Sacramento! Check out this beautiful short film about a scale model of the solar system in Nevada's Black Rock Desert.
