math students create shapes together with yarn

In 6th grade math, students played a youcubed team-building activity in which they worked together using a piece of yarn to create 3-D shapes. Middle School Math teachers Ava and Ms. Freeman played the role of the skeptics, asking students to justify how their shape satisfied certain characteristics. All students in the group participated to successfully build the complex shapes and provide a convincing argument.
