7th Grade Science Lightens Up!

Before a homegrown carnival took over Swig Field, it was visited by a large identified flying object! In 7th grade science, students study states of matter in a chemistry unit that contemplates the search for life beyond Earth and the science involved in space travel. The solar bag (a popular science tool used to explore the properties of air) is made of lightweight plastic that allows light from the sun to increase the air temperature inside the bag. Since the air in the bag gradually becomes less dense than the outside air, the whole tube will rise into the air, giving us a vivid display of science in action.
