COVID-19 and School Safety

RESILIENT. DEDICATED. SUPPORTIVE

Brandeis Marin is committed to the well-being of our whole community, and we are prepared to support the learning journey of every student – in this moment and into the future.

Brandeis Marin
Covid Safety Plan 2022–2023

This school COVID safety plan is Cal/OSHA compliant and aligned with all local, state and CDC public health guidelines.

The virus that causes COVID-19 is likely to be with us indefinitely and as we enter the third school year impacted by COVID-19, we will continue to align school policies with Marin County Public Health and California Department of Public Health. We are committed to keeping students safely in school, while employing common sense protocols that mitigate the possible spread of this infectious illness.
As we begin a third school year during the pandemic, it is clear that COVID-19 and its variants will be with us for the foreseeable future. This COVID safety plan details the mitigation strategies and protocols in place at Brandeis Marin. We agree with public health and educational experts locally and nationally that being at school is good for kids. The peer social connection, positive learning environment, and social-emotional support available to children in school is important to healthy childhood development. Our school’s COVID safety plan is informed by and aligned with evidence-based strategies that lower the risk of exposure and allow for contact tracing if someone becomes symptomatic.

SCHOOL PRIORITIES

  1. School will be a safe and healthy place for students, faculty, and staff.

  2. All students will have access to high quality, exceptional learning in a warm, nurturing community.

  3. Our program will be flexible and prepared in the event the school must adapt to changes in the pandemic or other environmental circumstances.

COVID-19 HEALTH PROTOCOLS

This Addendum outlines the essential health and safety protocols of Brandeis Marin regarding COVID-19:

  • Positive Cases and Confirmed Exposures to COVID-19: If your student is exposed to COVID-19, please take the following steps:

  • Vaccination: Vaccination against COVID-19 is strongly recommended for all students. We also encourage all students to remain up to date on all eligible boosters. All staff members are required to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

  • Ventilation: All classrooms and offices have been optimized for good ventilation through the use of air purifiers and keeping windows and doors open.

  • Masking: Masking recommendations or requirements are subject to change based on guidance from Marin Public Health and the current CDC COVID-19 Community Level. The school may require everyone to wear a surgical or N-95 (or equivalent) face mask at some large indoor school events, or when there is an outbreak in a class or uptick in cases.

  • Testing: Testing remains a key mitigation layer to detect and curb transmission of COVID-19. The school keeps rapid antigen tests on hand, which may be used to test at school as needed.

  • Symptoms and Health Monitoring: Students exhibiting symptoms of infectious illness should follow Marin County Public Health Covid guidance.

    • Wearing a face mask while exhibiting symptoms of mild infectious illness is a good way to lower the risk of spreading illness.

  • Good Hygiene and Handwashing: Students will be encouraged to wash their hands with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer before and after meals, after outside play, after using the restroom, after having close contact with others, and after blowing nose, coughing, and sneezing. Hand sanitizer is available upon request.
