What's your family Passover story? Today's Tefillah was a great warmup for Passover, which begins next Friday. We poked some fun (at the expense of those pesky plagues, among other things!) at the original Passover story, and talked about the many ways we celebrate family traditions and holidays together. Words can't describe this Tefillah led by our Va'ad, and the comic stylings of Ms. Trish and Mr. E, so just go watch it now!
Keep your eye on the calendar and take note of these upcoming events:

"There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you." ~ Maya Angelou.
We know you have a story to tell, so let's hear it!
On Sunday April 18th we will gather to share our silver linings stories at our next Brandeis Ahsh live Zoom event. The Brandeis Ahsh (that's Hebrew for 'moth') was developed in the style of The Moth, a now worldwide public media program in which regular people tell a personal story to the delight and astonishment of a live audience.
With the absence of in-person gatherings this year, The Ahsh will allow our larger community to gather, enjoy each other's experiences, and flex our story-telling muscles. At our first Ahsh event (did you miss it? watch it here!) we heard stories about quiet heroism, automotive ignorance, the power of forgiveness, and so much more! It was wonderful, and we can't wait for the next one.
For the all of the event details, visit brandeismarin.org/the-ahsh where you can learn more and submit your story idea. Just send an email to pitch your spiel no later than THURSDAY, MARCH 25th - don't delay!!
Bay Area Jewish day schools prove that we can indeed keep learning, playing, and thriving during a pandemic. Read the article now! Second grade is the year to learn all about different cultures from around the world. This year, the second graders hosted an international film festival (complete with red carpet and paparazzi!) showcasing the short films each student created for the country they researched. We'd like to thank all the parents out there who believed in these young superstars - they wouldn't be here without you!
Today the 8th grade virtually visited Mt. Herzl, Israel's national cemetery which shares the Mountain of Remembrance with Yad Vashem. The two sites are joined together by a narrow walking path lined with dates connecting the history of both places. Our focus was on a sculpture created by Micha Ullman entitled The Memorial for the Last of Kin which is found on the pathway. The sculpture looks like a very simple, upside-down house with its front wall separated and placed a distance apart. Lisa Levy tells us more about this sculpture in this daily Israel video posted in our Israel blog.
Last year the student council got serious about recycling, and this year's team is charged up to keep it going! Every day, a group of student council representatives go to each classroom to empty the bins and check on their recycling efforts. On Thursdays, we'll announce the winner of the week's Golden Recycler trophy as an incentive to keep up the good work!
How's it going with the Random Kindness Challenge? Share your random acts - send us an email and tell us how you spread joy - and don't forget to bring us your tree tags and cards to mail!
At the end of each school week, our lower school teachers record a "recap" video to share with their parents in BrandeisHome. If you're curious about all the learning happening in first through fifth grade, now you can check out last week's recap here in the Spotlight - enjoy!
