Dear Brandeis Marin community,
Today, Public Health Officers from five Bay Area counties and the City of Berkeley (San Francisco, Santa Clara, Contra Costa, Marin, and Alameda counties) announced a new stay-at-home order effective this Sunday, December 6th that will stay in effect until Monday, January 4th, 2021. There is a slight difference between the counties in the start time of this local stay-at-home order:
Governor Newsom had announced yesterday a plan to impose a stay-at-home order when the availability of ICU beds in a given region falls below 15%. Implementing the stay-at-home order this week is an accelerated action by these Bay Area counties. Public Health Officers in these 5 counties have said that waiting until we meet that ICU threshold will be too late.
The terms of the local stay-at-home order align with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) order; the only difference is the timeline, which has been accelerated in the Bay Area. You may read the full text of the stay-at-home order of the California Department of Public Health here.
What does the new stay-at-home order entail?
Brandeis Marin will not be able to have any students on campus who are not in compliance with this new stay-at-home order. Those students would not be able to return to in-person learning before January 11, 2021. To remind you, winter break begins on Monday, December 21st and ends on Friday, January 1st, 2021. However, the week of January 4-8th all students in all grades will be in distance learning.
This stay-at-home order and its new regulations will remain in effect until Monday, January 4, 2021.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel with vaccines just starting to circulate in the coming weeks. However, with the recent spike in COVID-19 cases and the onset of winter, we are not there yet. Our individual and collective efforts truly make a difference, and now is the time to redouble our efforts.
Thank you for your sacrifice, your partnership, and your continued vigilance. We will discuss this in more detail at Friday's What's Brewing.
Wishing you and your family a healthy and peaceful Shabbat, Peg
