Alumni News • Issue 9 • Summer 2020 ![]() Farewell, for Now! A Note from Rose Barlow
This was the year we were supposed to build on the fabulous Alumni Reunion that took place on Swig Field in August 2018 and the spectacular Brandeis in Marin 40th Birthday Celebration last spring of 2019. This year we were supposed to celebrate our beloved Mrs. R (Ruth Abramowitz, a.k.a Ruth Rosenthal) at our Spring Simcha. Mrs. R has now reached a milestone of 35 years on the faculty of our favorite Marin Jewish Day School. Mazal tov and thank you Mrs. R! This year we were supposed to gather on June 7th for a Mums and Alums, Dads and Grads brunch in the glorious San Rafael garden of Cheryl and Phil Genet, co-hosted by our very own alum student, alum faculty and now board trustee, Becky Genet.
It was not to be. And we missed you - terribly! READ MORE
AN INCREDIBLE BRANDEIS GRADUATION - PANDEMIC STYLE!
As you well know, graduation at Brandeis Marin is full of special traditions. This year, we had to adapt many of our time-honored celebrations to accommodate safety and shelter in place orders, and in the process, we created many new traditions we believe are here to stay. Check out our Graduation 2020 webpage where you can relive our celebrations, watch the graduates deliver their speeches, witness our first ever graduate family parade, and so much more!

One of the ways Brandeis Marin held our community close during the shelter in place this spring was with regular communication from Head of School, Dr. Peg Sandel. Not unlike Franklin Roosevelt during WWII, Peg spoke to us through video d'rash, parent Zoom meetings, and virtual Tefillah gatherings every Thursday. All proved essential in keeping parents and students connected and comforted during this time of uncertainty. Listen to Peg here in her first address to the community after the shelter in place order.
We miss you! Share a little of what's going on in your life. Follow us on Instagram and Twitter, and please join our Mishpacha Facebook group for alumni!
THE KINDNESS AND TIKKUN OLAM TEFILLAH
This year Brandeis Marin adapted to new ways of celebrating old traditions. When it came time to present the Jackie Hoffner Kindess and Tikkun Olam Award to a graduating student, our Tefillah team secretly orchestrated a live Zoom award presentation (ala Publisher's Clearing House!) and (safely!) surprised the Lowenstein family on live "TV". You can watch the entire wonderful Tefillah by clicking the button below, or skip to the surprise presentation here!
We're all missing museums these days. Fortunately for us, there are many virtual museum galleries available to visit from the safety of home. Take a leisurely stroll through this wonderful gallery of art created by the students of Brandeis Marin and curated by our talented art teacher, Rachel Hubbard!
Summer 2020 is not one for world travel and exploration. Luckily for our 8th grade class, they were able to travel safely to Israel earlier this year before the pandemic took hold and travel was limited. Treat yourself to this joyful and energetic trip to Israel with the Class of 2020!
Isn't it nice knowing that the Brandeis staff still sings L'CHI LACH to the graduating class? You can enjoy this year's digitally mastered version courtesy of our multi-talented music teacher, Lisa Roberts. Enjoy!
