Dear Brandeis Marin Community,
The school was notified today, Monday, March 16 at 10am that a member of the school community may have had indirect exposure to someone who is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 but has not been tested. Brandeis Marin will not be sharing information to identify the individual. This person is self-quarantined and we wish them a speedy recovery.
The Centers for Disease Control and local public health authorities are responsible for tracking confirmed cases and will take any contact tracing steps that they deem necessary. The school will of course fully cooperate with them as needed.
The closure of our school campus and the preventative measures that we are all taking will help slow the spread of COVID-19. Today, we are all receiving news that six local counties (including Marin, Alameda, Santa Clara, San Mateo, San Francisco and Contra Costa) and the City of Berkeley have declared a shelter in place order that will become effective at midnight tonight. This is a significant step taken by public officials to slow the spread of COVID-19. The shelter in place order is intended to enforce social distancing. I can't emphasize enough that these are not "snow days." Families and children should be leaving their homes only for essential items such as food, household supplies and medical care.
We recognize that the uncertainty around COVID-19, this new shelter in place order and now a possible indirect exposure in our community, may cause stress and anxiety. We encourage you to stay updated on both preventative measures and what to do if you identify potential symptoms of COVID-19. Click here for the CDC webpage describing "COVID-19 Symptoms" and additional information on "How To Protect Yourself" and "What To Do If You Are Sick."
The school will continue to send updates, including ideas for staying connected with the Brandeis Marin community. In these extraordinary times, we value so deeply our shared sense of community and common purpose. Thank you for all of your messages of support and thank you for the support we know you are giving one another.
In solidarity,
Peg
