Lachlan Fischer Graduation Speech

Lachlan Fischer – Graduation Address – June 9, 202121

Although I have only spent a year at Brandeis, I have learned and grown a lot as a person from who I was when I came here. I hadn’t been around many people in a long time because I was at a very small school before. I became more trusting of others, and a lot more compassionate. Brandeis supported me in defining that part of myself. The students were very kind and accepting, and my transition here was very easy and comfortable because of them. Many people were extremely forward-reaching and nice, and reached out to me before the school year started.

Over time, these people have helped me grow and mature. They have made it so easy for me to improve and become my best self. Even though I haven’t been here for very long, I have become more compassionate and trusting because of them. From getting to know them through group work to connecting with them over the summer, I think that this was a really special group of people that I will remember for a long time.

There were a lot of things that I started doing this year. I learned the Macarena with Mr. Emanuel, I learned how to play pickleball with Coach, and of course, I have learned how to better manage my time for high school. Trying new things hasn’t always been easy, but this year, I have been in a really great environment for just that. I was accepted into a group where I could really express myself through activities I had enjoyed doing for years, and for that, I am really grateful.

This year was a great year, and it will be one that I remember for a long time. I’ve met so many great people that have taught me so much about myself. I have tried tons of new things, and I have continued doing just as many. I believe that I have grown a lot as a person this year, and I will be grateful for that forever.
