Improvisation and creation are alive and well in our beloved music program, which includes elements of the traditional classical model, as well as a rock band, jazz band and “glee-like” chorus.
In the Lower School, children dive deep into melody, harmony, rhythm, tempo and meter. Kindergarteners and first graders experience a world of play through Orff instruments, a joyful mash-up of music, movement, drama and speech. Second graders hone their fingering skills on the ukulele, third graders on the guitar and fourth graders on the recorder. Fifth graders study music history and theory.
In Middle School, students may participate in our Vocal Ensemble or audition for our Jazz Band. Music performances for family, friends and the community take place throughout the year.
Band and Chorus
For students who are passionate about practicing and performing with a group of equally enthusiastic peers, we offer an optional additional –– and wildly popular –– before-school (zero period) music program. It’s comprised of a Beginning Rock Band, an Advanced Rock Band, a Chorus, and a String Ensemble.
