ART

At Brandeis Marin, art is a journey that ignites creativity and inspires discovery. Together, we will explore the lives, works, and techniques of a diverse range of master artists. Along the way, students will create their own unique artworks, drawing inspiration from these influential creators and experimenting with their distinctive styles. Pieces are proudly displayed in our school’s corridors—transforming our campus into a vibrant gallery for the entire community to enjoy.

All students K-8 will engage artistically through these core values:

  • Creativity: interpretation,
    create, presentation & pride

  • Compassion: kindness, respect, empathy & understanding

  • Community: communication, identity, belonging, & collaboration

  • Knowledge: cultural, global, theoretical, practical, & historical

Art in Action

Functional Judaica

Last year in Jewish Studies, we launched a special, schoolwide art initiative led by Reut Porat—an accomplished glass artist in addition to being one of our beloved Jewish Studies teachers. From Kindergarten through 8th grade, each class created a unique piece of handcrafted Judaica, culminating in a beautiful, meaningful collection that families can cherish for years to come.

Music Comes Alive

MUSIC

Improvisation, creativity, and performance are at the heart of our music program, where classical foundations meet contemporary expression. Students engage in rock bands, string and wind ensembles, and choruses, gaining a rich and well-rounded musical education. Across all grade levels, students perform throughout the year—sharing their talents at Winter and Spring Concerts, community venues, and weekly Tefillah services, bringing music to life across our school and beyond.

All K-8 students will engage musically at these five core levels:

  • Creativity: play, improvise, compose, jam, and create
  • Physicality: rhythm, technique, coordination, movement, and dance
  • Performance: interpretation, analysis, rehearsal, accountability, presentation, and pride
  • Community: communication, identity, belonging, and collaboration
  • Knowledge: cultural, global, theoretical, practical, and historical

DRAMA

Regardless of what we think of as “talent,” everyone can act, and everyone can contribute to the profound group experience that purposefully playing together brings.

With the tools of discipline, open-mindedness, and positive risk-taking, all can succeed in drama. Participating in theater also requires students to reflect on how they see themselves, their work, their moral center, and their convictions.

In theater, we engage with:

  • The kinesthetic: We train the natural abilities of voice, body, and face to create a specific character and story
  • The emotional: We create a bonded ensemble that provides supportive and caring attention to everyone in the group
  • The intellectual: We do close reading of the text to decode dialogue and subtext
  • The relational: We learn to understand social relationships in a play, which helps us to ask better questions of ourselves, our community, and the world

Drama

A young woman with dark hair and a green-tinted hairstyle is intently focused on painting something on a table in front of her, surrounded by various art supplies and materials.
