Daryan's Speech

Daryan Green - Graduation Address - June 10, 2020

Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory - Theodor Seuss Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss.

This quote truly inspired me because of how honest it is. Most people spend their life chasing things, but we never truly stop to appreciate the moment. For me, one of my best memories of Israel is being at the top of Masada with all my friends as we watched the sunrise.

I never really realized the power in that moment. I would never be in Israel with my friends again. I wish I created more memories, maybe it was because I was too focused on tomorrow or our adventure the next day. But I should have slowed down. I should have taken in how rare the experience was. It is something we all need to do. Stop chasing, slow down, and enjoy what life gives us.

For example, the first day we arrived in Israel we all woke up early and tired. We went for a walk up the cobblestone streets in Yafo next to the beach. The heat was awfully strong yet it felt relaxing. It felt like a scene out of a storybook.

And I tell all of you 4th graders, kindergarteners, sixth graders - all of you. Slow down and appreciate your time here because it all comes so fast, and before you know it, you will be up here realizing how much Brandeis means to you. I will leave you with one last quote:

Memory is a way of holding on to things you love, things you are, and things you never want to forget.- Kevin Arnold.

Brandeis is a place I will always remember because it is the best part of me. I enjoyed every minute here. Thank you
